Used Nikon D700 drops below $1600 on B&H!
While the D600 is definitely an amazing camera that I'm sure many people are buying right now, if you read my D600 review then you know that for my particular line of work, I'll be sticking with a D700. In fact I'll be buying a second or third one, used, since they're now discontinued...
5D mk3 AF point illumination: Firmware update coming April 2013?
One of the first things we noticed when we began testing the 5D mk3 was the un-explained, and to be honest downright annoying change in the way AF points illuminated during a "half-press" for autofocus / metering. Basically, ....the focus points don't light up anymore. Not until AFTER focus ins confirmed in one-shot AF, and barely at all in AI-Servo mode.
Nikon D600 RAW sample images processed in Lightroom 4.2
Last weekend I was able to capture a few frames using the brand new Nikon D600 at a wedding. While waiting patiently for Adobe to update Lightroom / ACR to accommodate the D600, I used Nikon's ViewNX 2 to browse the D600 images, and play with Nikon's powerful "Active D-Lighting" feature. The results were very impressive right out of the camera, but last night I was still truly floored when I downloaded Adobe Lightroom 4.2, and finally imported my Nikon D600 NEF's. I will let the images speak for themselves.
Canon 6D vs Nikon D600 – What are Canon and Nikon thinking?
So, we finally have two affordable full-frame cameras from Canon and Nikon. A little over three years after Sony brought out their $1999 A850 beginner full-frame DSLR with a 24 megapixel FF sensor, Canon's 6D is 20 megapixels and $2100, and Nikon's D600 is 24 megapixels and also $2100.
Adobe Lightroom 4.1 Official Release Available For Download!
Well, I was just about to call shenanigans on Adobe for such shoddy “Release Candidates” over the past couple months… ...
Nikon Announces A 24 Megapixel DX Crop Sensor!
Nikon just announced their newest beginner DSLR, the D3200, with a 24 megapixel DX sensor. This "new" Nikon sensor is borrowed (and probably improved) from the Sony A77 sensor, a 24 megapixel behemoth that performs surprisingly well actually ...For 24 megapixels on a crop-sensor, that is.
Dramatic Black & White Portraits [Getting The Shot – Episode 1]
Alright, it's time for a new series! Welcome to "Getting The Shot" with your camera-geek host, Matthew Saville. The goal of this series will actually be to explain (in a NON-geeky way) what goes into making a photograph. Instead of going crazy with techno-babble and assumptions of reader skill level, these articles will focus on three simple things:
Nikon D800 Takes #1 Spot for DXOMark Sensor Benchmark!
The results are in from DXO Mark's sensor benchmark tests for both the Nikon D4, and the Nikon D800. Guess who won?
News: Adobe Photoshop CS6 Beta Available For Download!
The folks at Adobe have certainly been hard at work over the last couple of years; first we got Lightroom 4, and now Photoshop CS6 is coming over the horizon! It always seems like new software comes out just in time to handle the photos from the new cameras that we're buying... Eesh...
News: Zeiss to finally make a zoom lens for Canon & Nikon?
Here's something interesting! Zeiss, a maker of legendary lenses throughout the decades, may finally be making their first zoom lens for the Nikon and Canon DSLR mounts. It looks like it'll be a 70-200 f/2.8, and it's quite a beauty! Check
New Pocket Wizard Plus 3’s – More Affordable, Yet WAY Better!
For years now, Ebay etc. has been erupting with affordable, half-decent triggers. While Pocket Wizard, the ORIGINAL brand of reliable, industry standard radio triggers, kept coming out with more and more expensive gizmos, many that didn't even work very well at first, or at all. Radio wireless TTL was all the range, for some silly reason,
