There are so many interesting movie making techniques Hollywood uses that, in the past, were just chalked up to movie making magic. But now, we can create some pretty stellar footage with just our phones and an app or two. For those serious about filmmaking, there are also some really great tools you can invest in that can be used for various techniques.

[REWIND: SYRP GENIE MINI GIVEAWAY | AN ULTRA PORTABLE TIME-LAPSE DEVICE]

In the following video by our friends at The Slanted Lens, Jay P. Morgan grabs some of our favorite tools for filmmaking and time-lapse and combines a few techniques to make one unique shot. He placed a set and his gear on the side of a very busy street in Downtown Los Angeles (something we don’t recommend without a permit), and incorporates two axis motion, time-lapse, and live action footage into one shot for the first of a new series called, “Lost in America.” Jay P. uses the Syrp Genie, Genie Mini, and the Magic Carpet with his Tamron 15-30mm lens and Canon 5D Mark III.

Jay P. uses the slider to create a dolly move and sets the Genie to work with the Genie Mini to create a panning move. Watch how the final product turns out, including his settings, in the video below.

Right now, we are also giving away a Syrp Genie Mini, so be sure to enter and win one of these awesome time-lapse devices. It will make your filmmaking life a lot easier.
